The difference between the sealing structure The general shielded bearings is divided into two types of dust-proof structures: sealed and non-sealed.

Non-sealed: this does not have any seals, which is what you call "open"
Sealing: There are two kinds of seals, one is the metal dust cover seal, the other is the rubber seal ring. Of course, the two seals here are only the most conventional two, and there are other special seals. This seal is what you call a cover seal.
As mentioned above, the cover type seal is divided into two kinds of material sealing, metal and rubber (the material of the sealing cover). So when you talk to others, you can't say that it is a shielded bearings in general, but shielded bearings dust cover (ZZ) or a rubber seal (2RS).

Open bearing: Take deep groove ball bearing as an example: there is no dust cover on both sides of the bearing
shielded bearings: Same as above, with metal dust caps or rubber seals on both sides of the shielded bearings (Note: divided into single-sided Z, RS and double-sided ZZ, 2RS)

The difference between iron cover and plastic cover

1. The main purpose of the rubber cover is dustproof, and at the same time it is tightly sealed and can be waterproof; but the friction is larger, and the speed is lower than that of the iron cover, so the heat dissipation performance is worse than that of the iron cover; the rubber cover is also divided into contact and non-contact. But the details are almost the same, that is, there is a little difference in sealing and friction.
2. The iron cover has many uses, mainly for dust prevention. The speed of the iron cover is higher, but because it is iron, it is not waterproof, but the rubber cover has a higher friction, so the heat dissipation performance is worse than that of the iron cover. And the speed of the rubber cover is also lower than that of the iron cover. Generally, the temperature of bearing rubber cover should not exceed 150℃.
